The Illuminated Mind

Jonathon Mead I first stumbled upon reading another of the SAB’s Zen Habits and liked what I was reading. As his tag line says, the less boring side of personal development and his about page gives more Illumination as to why this is a SAB

Once you can see things clearly, as they are, you know what action needs to be taken.

The purpose of Illuminated Mind is to shed light and bring awareness in an unconventional way. True bliss is unique to the individual. It’s not a wholesale prescription that can be distributed en masse. My purpose here is to explore the uncommon side of things that is often overlooked by the typical, mainstream approach.

Illuminated Mind is about finding freedom from what we’ve been conditioned to think will make us happy.

Experience Life

Unusual Summer

We are having a strange summer – it has been overcast, stormy and rainy. It is unusual, as the last 5 summers were not like this.

However, it seems that a lot of the country is having uncommon weather. On the other hand, I’ve also heard that this kind of weather had been common ten years ago. It just goes to show, you can’t judge how things should be. Often it is hard to know exactly what is true or accurate.

Nevertheless, I find that the explanation for the weather doesn’t matter. What is most important is my connection to it – how I am experiencing it. And I love this weather. It is energetic cool and beautiful!

How Do You Experience It?

How Do You Experience It?

Always ask yourself what your experience is, as that’s what really matters. Recognizing and having your experience is what puts you in the flow of life. On the other hand, when we are disconnected from our experience and are stuck in our heads figuring out why things are the way they are, we lose our flow.We begin to have an altered experience in which we are lost in our thoughts and in seeking the correct or logical answer, all along not really noticing our own life experience. How logical is that?

One of the purposes of life is to have our own experience, thereby coming to know ourselves. We are meant to notice how things make us feel, how they affect us and how they change us. They are meant to help us come to know Who we truly want to be and what we want to experience. It is important to be connected to ourselves and our own experience this way as this is how we come to know ourselves and to know life.

Our minds are a part of our experience, but they are not meant to be our experience themselves. This gets us stuck in a place that is too mental or thinking-oriented. Our minds are meant to help us have our experience, to figure out how to have our experience and how to improve our experiences. For example, I am not meant to walk around outside during a thunder storm, since that could lead to a dangerous experience. Instead, if I enjoy the rain then my mind, or my thinking capability, is meant to help me figure out a safe way to experience the rain or the sound of the thunder. Our minds are only a part of what makes us up: we also have a feeling aspect, an energetic aspect and a physical aspect. In order to experience life we truly need to connect with as many aspects of ourselves as we are able.

Life Can Pass You By

Life Can Pass You By

When Life Passes You By

Have you ever noticed people say that their lives have passed by in a heartbeat? That decades have gone by and that they don’t know where that time went? Unfortunately, that is a common perception and one which indicates that the person hasn’t necessarily been present during their life. In other words, people are often so lost in a memory of the past, in a hope for the future or in an alternate world of thought or escape, like fantasy, that they don’t truly experience their own lives. For these people their own life experience has passed them by.

This can be true of any of us – even in our thirties or twenties we start to notice that we aren’t as aware of our own experience as we get the feeling we should be.

The Benefit of Your Experience

The Benefit of Experience

The Benefit of Experience

It used to be said that there was no replacing the wisdom that comes with experience (and age). This isn’t said so often any more, but there are a lot of people who do seek to hire someone with experience, and rightfully so.

The reason wisdom is meant to come with experience is because when you have had a lot of experience that you have been present for, you have allowed yourself to be affected, shifted and matured by life. By experiencing your life, specifically by being present in your life and connected with what happens to you, you can’t help but find yourself working with life and your Source Energy. You can’t help but find yourself growing wise, understanding how life works and not getting quite so worked up about life. With such experience you begin to go with the flow of life. It only makes sense that such wisdom would be sought out. It also only makes sense that life is going to become easier on you and more enjoyable as you get into this flow throuh your own experience.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people who -sadly- become bitter with life. They have not aged gracefully and can look worn and tired in their late thirties or forties. In this scenario people tend to feel short-changed by life and they can be ill-tempered and short with others. This is because life can be a very challenging and painful teacher. When you miss the experience of your own life and you avoid feeling and being affected by life, you are also inadvertently missing the opportunities to gain from your life.

Avoiding life in these ways can lead to more and more painful experiences. People who avoid their own experiences in this way often find that the experience they are having seems to be very limited, very rigid and does not allow room for expansion. At this point a life in which dreams are fulfilled is almost impossible to achieve and instead life becomes a series of difficulties and challenges that seem to provide no joy or hope.

There Is Always Hope

Always Hope

Always Hope

Whether you are experiencing your life or not, there is always hope to change your ways. Life is an amazing experience because at every turn it gives us the opportunity to begin to have our own experience. Any time we do this, no matter how good or how bad life is for us, our lives then open to more positive change. Whether it is the good, the bad or the ugly we are meant to experience it all. We are also meant to have it all in life, but it is only when we are in the flow of life that we can gain from it all and have it all.

Grasping at Your desires? Do This and Activate the Law of Attraction

Posted by at 26th June, 2009

Aikido - In The Flow

Aikido – In The Flow

If you push someone what happens? Chances are they will push back. If you grab someone’s hand and pull them, what happens? They pull away from you. If someone is needy and is grasping at you for your love and attention, what do you do? Most people pull away. Grasping at something you want can actually stop you from having it. Repelling something you don’t want, can make it push at you even harder.

People grasp and repel in many arenas in life. They grasp at things they want. They grasp at receiving pleasure. They repel people and things they don’t like. What they don’t realize is that the constant grasping and repelling, not only creates the outcome they don’t want, but puts them in a lot of stress and drains their energy.

In personal development, grasping and repelling will stop you in your tracks. You can’ heal something you avoid looking at. If you avoid and deny that you have an alcohol problem, for example, the problem will persist, or get worse. It is only through shining the transformative light of awareness on something that it can heal and be integrated.

If you wish to manifest your hopes, dreams and desires and activate the Law of Attraction, the best state to do this in is being in the flow of life. You must allow what you desire to be, not grasp at it. Grasping at something implies that you don’t have it. If you don’t energetically have it first, you won’t have it in form.

When you allow both the good and the bad without grasping and repelling, you enter into the the powerful flow of the now moment that flows through self and all of life. You naturally move into a state of well being that is more aligned with your desires manifest, activating the Law of Attraction.

There is a powerful Japanese martial art form called Aikido. Ai means harmony. Ki means spirit. Do means ‘the way of’ or ‘the road to’. In other words, Aikido means ‘the way of harmonized spirit’. The key difference between Aikido and other martial arts is that you don’t repel or block a person attacking you, you flow with punch or kick, using the energy of their momentum for yourself.

Do this in your life and you will have more energy to manifest what you wish to manifest. Instead of resisting things you don’t like and pushing them away, simply allow them to flow through you and dissapate. This puts you in the universal flow of life as you move into living in the now moment.

Be aware of where you are grasping at things in life. Imagine having your desires manifest. Grow the sensation of your desires manifest in your inner world. Do this without grasping at them and you allow them to move from being to having. Grasping prevents the having. For example, if you wish more abundance in your life, imagine yourself being abundant. Imagine what you will buy, what you will do, and most importantly how good you will feel with your abundance. If you are grasping at it, it means you don’t yet have it. Let the grasping go and have it in your inner world (your thoughts, feelings and imagination). As you do this you open the door to having it in your outer world as well.

Living in the Flow has other advantages. One obvious one is that when you are not repelling or grasping at things in life, you have more energy, and less stress. You are more relaxed and because of this are able to get more done in less time. One can only surmise that living a relaxed, stress free life with more energy would be better for your health and longevity.

Want to increase your well-being and more powerfully activate the Law of Attraction in your life? Be aware of where you grasp and repel in your life. Consciously let the grasping and repelling go. Allow whatever is to be. As you do so, you begin to live in the Flow where all good things reside.

SUCCESS: Coming Undone-It’s A Good Thing!

Posted by at 26th June, 2009

by Eva Gregory, CPCC

Do you remember the saying, ‘everything I needed to know about life I learned in kindergarten?’ Well, I won’t say everything, but definitely a few really key lessons can be learned from the five and under set. One of the most important ones is the wide-eyed wonder and delight that children seem to be able to find in almost everything, every minute of every day, day after day. As adults we often do not appreciate the enormity of this wide-eyed sense of adventure. In fact we often find it tiresome, but take a moment to truly ponder what it would be like to look forward to each and every day with so much excitement that sleep is like punishment. Can you imagine how different your days would become?

Jonathan was in a rut. He’d begun to dread his work and even wasn’t satisfied with how he spent his free time. He’d begun criticizing and nit-picking just about everything and had begun to drive even himself crazy. One evening after work Jon stopped at the dance studio that his sister ran. While waiting for her last class to end, he ran into an old friend from high school. He was surprised to see Marguerite. He’d heard that she had moved away years before, and recalled being a tad depressed about it because he’d had a secret crush on her for years. Looking at her, she barely looked old enough to be out of high school, let alone fast approaching her mid-thirties as he knew her to be. He told her how good she looked and she smiled, but did not give the compliment a great deal of attention, which really earned Jon’s approval.

When his sister Juana joined them, she suggested that they all go out to dinner and catch up. During dinner Jon learned that Marguerite had a very eventful life. She’d managed to recover from a disaster of a marriage, from being yet another casualty of the Dot.com bust, and had recently moved back home with her Dad, yet she was the epitome of optimism. She never once complained about the things that had gone wrong in her life, but seemed to look to the future as uncharted frontier, full of opportunity. Jonathan could not believe how much life and vitality she seemed to ooze. When Juana and Jon asked Marguerite about her optimism, she remarked that it was because she refused to let life beat her. She chose to embrace each fresh day as a new chance and could not dwell on what had happened in the past, even if it was as recently as yesterday. She said that periodically when she slipped and allowed herself to get caught up in ‘yesterdays’, she realized it immediately because she felt drained, bitter, and often listless. Marguerite confessed that she learned this way of life from her now seven year old daughter Callie. Callie was always excited about life. She couldn’t wait to embrace a new day, conquer a new task, and almost always did it with a fantastic attitude. When she was born, Marguerite had searched for a way to nurture the free spirit in her child and decided the best way to do that was by being a role model for her.

Jonathan confided in Marguerite about his life and moods of late, and asked her for some suggestions. She said that she had three tips for how he could start living his life with the abandon that leaves one open to all possibilities. She first suggested that he stop living in the past. When he began to deny it, she told him that if he woke up in a foul mood that he was indeed living in the past. She told him to make a pact with himself to never go to bed with unresolved issues. Granted some things cannot be solved in just a few hours of a day, but instead of letting things carry over, he needed to make peace with the fact that it was unresolved and release it. Second, Marguerite suggested that Jonathan allow himself to try and enjoy things that may not seem appropriate for a thirty-something year old. She confided that she often went to the zoo to ride the carousel and several times a month went to play at the playground without her child. She found this personal playtime as being her most creative time. She assured him that good things would result from learning how to play again. Lastly, she suggested that he surround himself with others who knew how to embrace joy, especially since he didn’t have children of his own. She cautioned that sometimes one can mistake irresponsibility for playfulness, but told Jon that he needed to learn how to really let himself go. She suggested volunteering with young children, or having him join a group of his liking for a fun activity, or that Jon join Callie and herself for a few "learn how to let go" outings. As she spoke Juana watched Jon ponder her suggestions and was delighted at the sparks she saw in his lately dull eyes. She knew it was going to take time, but thought that if Jon allowed himself to come undone from his former routine and learn to live life in the moment that he’d feel so much better about himself, his life, and definitely his future.

Are you ready to come undone? Can you make a pact to leave the events of a day on that day and not carry it into a new day, week, month or year? Yes, it is difficult, but just like couples who promise to never go to bed angry, why not promise to never go to bed aggravated? If you can make a promise to others, why not begin with you? Remember, you can’t change the way others act, but you can change the way you respond verbally and the way you handle things. It’s your life, the ball is in your court, and it’s up to you to decide to let yourself come undone where you need to, in order to create the life that will make abundance, delight, possibilities and prosperity flow like the mighty Niagara-effortlessly and limitless. It is a good thing.
