The Abundance of Being Thankful

Posted by at 25th November, 2009

When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they were thankful. They had a vision of coming to a new land and starting a new life. They were dissatisfied with their lives in England and hoped that the harrowing journey across a relatively uncharted ocean would bring them to the life they had been dreaming of.

They landed at Plymouth Rock where the real work began. They had to build homes, defend themselves and forage for food, all of which had to be done before the oncoming winter. Without food, they would die. Thankfully, the Native Americans taught them how to grow plants such as corn. They harvested the food and had plenty to share. Being grateful for their bounty, they sat down with family and friends in thanksgiving for what they had received. Their dreams were being realized.

Every year we give thanks, as our forefathers did those many years ago. We spend time with friends and family. We eat until we just can’t eat one more bite of turkey. It is certainly a time to be thankful for everything we have as we look forward to another year of abundance.

So why do it just one day a year? Are we only thankful for our abundance in November? What about the other 364 days of the year?

The act of being thankful is an extremely powerful force. The pilgrims remembered this and immortalized it with their historical meal. There may be historical disparities of exactly what they ate and who attended, but one message is clear and that is of being thankful.

We can bring the abundance of being thankful into our lives everyday by simply remembering to thank the Universe for delivering what we ask for. This has the power to bring even more abundance into our lives.

When we affirm to the Universe that we are grateful for receiving what we want, the Universe responds by sending even more abundance to us. This is the Law of Attraction at its best. When you hold positive thoughts and feelings, positive experiences are attracted to you.

An acquaintance, Lesley, is struggling with this concept. She feels that her life has been predetermined and that she cannot do anything to change it. She is unhappy in most all aspects of her life. I asked her the other day, “Are you happy?” At first, she tried to say she was, but quickly she was in tears. I explained to her that she had many positive aspects of her life. I reminded her that she is at choice, and everything in life is a choice. I explained that if she feels she is not worthy of abundance, then that is what she can  expect to receive in her life. If she can begin to affirm that she is worth being successful, happy, and healthy, she can reap abundance. It is her choice. I just know she will make the right choice and I can’t wait to celebrate with her when she can truly thank the Universe for her success.

So while you eat your turkey, remember that on Friday, you have the opportunity to continue being thankful every other day of the year as well.

I’m going to be very, very, very happy…first!

Posted by at 24th November, 2009

busy-ladyWe all get crazy busy with the holidays, right?  Remember this:

Just do your best to keep yourself in balance. One of the first things that causes Energy misalignment, is asking or demanding too much of yourself in terms of time and effort. In other words, you just cannot burn the candle at both ends, so that you are physically tired, and then expect yourself to have a cheerful attitude. So, the rule of thumb has to be: “I’m going to be very, very, very happy, and then do everything I have time to do after that.”

This is from Abraham (Ester & Jerry Hicks) at an LOA workshop in 2005.

Running Scared or Running Free

Posted by at 19th November, 2009

In each and every moment of your life (including this moment right now) you have an important choice to make. Will you choose to be scared, or choose to be free? In the events of the past few weeks, and the passing of my mother-in-law, I was acutely aware of the choices I had in each moment.

When my husband and I found out how suddenly the end was approaching, it was quite shocking (and untimely). There was a tiny voice in side of me that started going through all of the “what if’s.” What if she passed before David got there? What if I needed to close my business for the week… or cancel my retreat? What if I never got to say goodbye? What if…

As soon as I noticed the contractions around all of the “what if’s,” I realized they were all coming from a place of fear. They were making me feel like I was running scared. I’ve never gone through this before; I didn’t know how to BE or what to do. So, I asked myself, “is this how I want to be feeling right now?” Did I want to be feeling the fear, the frantic energy and the worry about “what if?” Well, the only answer to that question was no.

So, instead I chose to feel free within myself and make decisions from that space. Not surprisingly, grace joined me in that place and we easily got my husband on the next plane out of Baltimore with no problem. (While he didn’t make it to his mom before she passed, he made peace within himself around her passing.) I changed the date of my retreat to start one day later and the attendees adjusted to the change with such grace, as did the bed and breakfast I was holding it at… they had the exact number of rooms I needed for the new dates. My parents quickly adjusted their schedule to watch Janet while I was at the retreat so David could stay with his father in Sacramento for an extra week. And, on and on…

I stopped running scared that I wouldn’t have the time I had planned to prepare for the retreat, and chose to release my attachment to what I “thought” I “needed” to do… and the freedom within me allowed for more grace to unfold in a magical retreat. Instead of running scared about some commitment I had to break, I chose to be fr-ee within myself and not beat myself up about having to let some things go so I could be present with my husband and family.

There was so much happening in such a short period of time, each moment was a choice I had to make. Will I run “scared” or will I run “free?”

I invite you to ask yourself this same question right now with whatever is happening in your life. What are you choosing to be your experience? Are you running scared or running free?

Some of you may immediately go to a place in your mind that will quickly begin listing all of the “reasons” why you ought to be scared. Remember that this voice that causes you to feel contracted, fearful, scared, paralyzed, etc… is the voice of your ego. Simply allow yourself to acknowledge the voice. Let it feel heard.

But, as my spiritual teacher says… then turn UP the volume on the voice of your Higher Self. Listen to this voice more closely. Listen for the truth that resides deep within your soul. Your soul sings the song of freedom… no matter what circumstances may be occurring around you. It is YOU that can choose in any moment to allow fear or freedom to determine how you feel.

Deliberate Creation and the Power of Imagination

Posted by at 16th November, 2009

Visualization comes more easily to some of us than others, but everyone can learn to use the focus of a vision to become a more powerful deliberate creator.

I am a very visual person. I see images and they are often emblazoned on my mind. This can be a liability for a “deliberate creator” because it means that I can easily vividly focus on what I don’t want. If you have a visual learning style, you may want to have a few tools for letting go of the images you don’t want to be focusing on and replacing them with the ones you DO want.

In the Abraham-Hicks teachings, they say “Look around less. Imagine more.” This is because when we keep looking at “what is”, we keep validating the current experience. Fine, when you like what you see, but what about when you are seeking improvement?

I noticed that I  have a very powerful ability to recall what I have seen and hold the image in my mind. How I turn that into an asset in deliberate creating is to use the power of my imagining to create even more vivid images than those I am currently looking at. Here are two ways to do that:

1. Find a memory with a vivid image that matches the way I want to be vibrating. In other words, I align my energy with a mental image that is powerfully positive and uplifting. To strengthen this image, I find the feeling that matches and amplifies the energy of the image. I step into this emotionally charged vision and live in it, right in this moment. The more I do this, the more real it becomes.

2. When there is no matching memory, I create one, in my imagination, and charge it with emotion. This can take some words to bring it to life. My favorite way is to script a scenario of what experiences I will be having as a result of the change. I write this as if it has already happened. The trick here, for me, is to forget about telling how I got there and go right to what it feels like to have arrived, the gratitude, the “rightness” of it and the ripples of other amazing results that came as a result of the manifestation I started with.

To keep things really simple, when an issue is really “charged”, just focus on feeling good!

Here’s a story about how to use focusing and the feelings that are generated to lift your vibration, even when you aren’t trying to create anything in particular. I focused on something as simple as a message from a friend and expanded it into a vivid emotional image that I can come back to for alignment.

Working in my studio yesterday, I missed a call from my friend, Val, who recently moved to a new town. What is it about having someone dear appreciate me, that feels so good? In her message, my friend said that she missed me and then that she misses the way she feels when she is with me. This is “Abraham speak”. Abraham-Hicks teaches that when we miss someone, we are really missing how we feel when we are around them.

We can access this feeling any time, really. So, while my friend is far away, I can think about her and feel how it feels to appreciate who she is and I become instantly aligned with my own inner being. Appreciating others is one way that I take the shortcut to feeling good whenever I want to shift out of negativity. I actually learned this as part of my HeartMath practice and I teach it to everyone who will listen!

So, when I got the call from Valerie, here’s what happened for me. I heard her voice, I pictured her in my mind, a smile came across my face as I remembered my appreciation for her. The message was lovely, too, of course, but the reason I could really feel and take in her appreciation was because I was already in the vibrational vicinity of it.  Love really does multiply and grow as we let it in. From this vibrational “vantage point”, it is easy to move into creating something specific, or I can just bask in the good feeling, knowing that more goodness is being attracted into my experience.
