Wisdom Nuggets from Mike Dooley

Posted by at 28th February, 2010

Here are three nuggets of wisdom from Mike Dooley’s Playing the Matrix workshop in Salt Lake last weekend:

1. Leverage details but don’t attach to them
Much of Mike’s material encourages deliberate creators to focus on specific details of the end result we’re manifesting.

But he makes an important distinction in that we don’t focus on those details in order to create those particular results.  Rather we just use them to get in the feeling of what we want.  That’s the only way those details are helpful.

In Mike’s words, “The details are visualized to get you excited about your end results, not to be your end results.”

If we get hung up on a particular job, or person, or weight, that’s when the details don’t serve us.  But we can imagine those details since they’re often helpful for creating the feeling state of what we want.  Just don’t lose sight of the big picture.

2. Things will still look weird
Evidence of progress toward our success is often easy to miss.  Mike specifically said, “… the miracles of progress are usually invisible.”

So you can’t really say, “It isn’t happening.”  Because just like on a cross country road trip – you could be 24 hours away from your final destination, and things could still look really weird.  Doesn’t mean you’re not almost there.

So don’t worry if things aren’t looking like you thought they would.  It doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.

3. Why believe in limiting beliefs?

That wasn’t exactly the way Mike said it, but it was clear he does not invest much (if any) time exploring and resolving internal limiting beliefs.

Instead Mike believes that by taking action you automatically navigate around limiting beliefs.

I sure haven’t practiced that personally, but I’m willing to play with that idea!

There’s actually lots more to share with you, but I’ll save it for later!

(If you’re interested in getting your hands on Mike’s material directly, here’s an affiliate link for that.)

In the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts on anything here that sparks your interest!

Rookie Move: Resisting Doo-Doo

Posted by at 26th February, 2010

Clients and Good Vibe U members have heard this story, but it was a good reminder of how ridiculous it is to rely on action to get what we want.  So I’m telling it one more time.

(Then I’m done talking about it, because this is not the story I’d like a repeat of.)

Backstory: When you’ve got a lot of animals in the house, it’s crucial to keep up on maintenance if you don’t want it to smell like a farm or a zoo.  (No offense to farms or zoos.)  So if I sound neurotic, it’s only because I have a zillion animals (as my boyrfriend says) and a nice house.

So when pit bull Joe left a big doo-doo on my favorite rug, I was not happy.

After all, he’s an adult and he’s supposed to be house-trained!  He’s old enough to know to take advantage of a potty break, and certainly old enough to hold it for an hour until someone gets home!

Ridiculous!  (In a very wrong way.)

Anyway, it was not easy cleanup, so it felt like time to call in the professional.

Ned at Abacus Cleaners knows the routine well (he’s been my guy for over a decade) and popped over to do his magic on all the carpets and rugs.

Before 24 hours had passed, Joe did it AGAIN.

He left another doo-doo on the same rug, in the same spot, and just as hard to clean up.  (You fellow dog owners know what I’m talking about, right?)

This shouldn’t even happen once a year, and here it was happening twice in 24 hours?!

I was … not happy, to put it mildly.

After I fumed about it, I realized Joe practically had to go on the rug again because I was flowing such huge resistance about it.

I mean, pretend you’re Universe and all you hear from Jeannette is “blankety blank poop on the blankety blank rug from blankety blank dog.”  If you’re Universe, you gotta figure out how to get more poop on the rug.

The poor dog didn’t have a chance with the vibe I was flowing: HUGE resistance to poop on my floor.

That was the story I told the client who really really didn’t want to experience another breakup, and the other client who really really didn’t want to have to travel for work (she wants to stay local so she can get a DOG, believe it or not!), and the other one who really really didn’t want to go broke

Yeah, let me tell you how that works out …

… it doesn’t.

The resistance is a magnet for it.

We all know this. I’ve written about it before and probably will again.  Because until we get it figured out, the reminders keep coming.

So our opportunity is to make peace with doo-doo on rugs.  And breakups, and going broke, and jobs that suck.

Not because we give up wanting it to be different, or thinking it could be different – but because as long as we need it to be different it can’t be.

And all the action in the world I can think of to take cannot override my vibe of resistance.

But seriously …

Peace with poop?  Really?

Yeah, really.  Unless I want more.

That’s my homework this week.

What’s yours?

Growth Knows No Limits

Posted by at 24th February, 2010

By Eva Gregory, CPCC

Coacheva403 Isn’t it true that everyone has a goal? Some may dream of wealth, some of travel, some of dedicating their lives to service others, whatever the goal … it is human nature to have something to "aim for." If you were asked, "How willing are you to take whatever steps necessary to achieve your personal and/or professional goals?" What would your answer be? Are you willing to change your perceptions, learn new things, and embrace new ideas?

Are you willing to grow in order to grasp your brass ring?

In human resources management, the buzz word "KSAs" has been quite popular. It stands for knowledge, skills, and abilities. These are the things that make employees attractive to employers, and propel them up the ladder to success. Are your knowledge, skills, and abilities up to date? Many people rely on existing skills to get them where they want to be, without thinking to update skills, research new technologies, or perfect their delivery. What are some of the things in your life that could stand a little refreshing, updating, or attention?

Do you take time each day to visualize what you would like to accomplish and where you would like to be in life? Daily visualization is an excellent tool that has been commended for helping many reach their goals much quicker than normal. What about persuasion? So much of our success depends on selling products, ideas or services. Being able to successfully persuade an audience into considering and actually purchasing your product will go a long way to achieving success. The same holds true for marketing. Think of the last product that had you rushing to the store to make a purchase. Did you need it, or simply want it? What about toy manufacturers that start priming children for the December holidays after Labor Day? They are truly experts at marketing! There are so many tools available that simply need to be utilized. Don’t let fear or complacency stand in the way of success. That was almost what Roger allowed to happen.

Roger decided to start a new contracting business, his life long ambition. He knew the contracting business, had wonderful ideas, was quite honest and ethical, and did fantastic work. Roger had all of the necessary contractor skills, but not all of the skills necessary to run a successful business. Roger is one of those "baby boomers" who were not exposed to computers in school, and his work experience has all been hands-on in the field training. Thus, he is completely computer illiterate with no idea of how to run the office and paperwork end of his business in this new technological millennium. When Roger discussed his dilemma with his sister, she suggested that he either hire someone to perform these tasks for him, or that he take a small business management course. Roger was always very reluctant to embrace computers, the internet, and technology as a whole, so his sister was completely surprised when he agreed to take the course, instead of hiring someone.

The small business management course was held at his local community college and was sponsored by the Small Business Administration. After the completion of his class, Roger decided to shelf the idea of starting his business immediately and to take a few more courses to learn computer and internet skills, business accounting, and management. He realized that he needed to know that basics of how to operate his business, in order to even be able to consider hiring someone to perform the office administration for him down the road. Roger recognized that he could not successfully start and run his business with the skills that he had, so he updated his knowledge with gusto. Today, Roger owns a growing contracting business and only recently hired someone to take over the day to day office management.

Success in anything occurs when one takes initiative. So, be proactive in reaching your goals by asking the universe for assistance, studying new materials and technologies, or by learning the powers of persuasion. It is through new experiences that new ideas, skills, and opportunities occur. Allow growth in all aspects of life and prosperity will follow.

Art from the Heart…Truly!

Posted by at 23rd February, 2010

Firsts are always exciting, always fun, and always eye opening.  This is my first blog post where I’m featuring someone.

I love it when I find people that are living their passion, and Gina Marie Dunn is doing just that!  She is an artist living in Dallas and I ran across her work at a cool little (affordable!) art gallery called Artisan Style (where my jewelry is being sold as well).  I noticed her art earlier this month at the gallery…she has an awesome heart collection that I just love (no pun intended!).  It’s not only perfect for Valentine’s month, but perfect for when you need a splash of red on your walls!

Gina Marie sells online through Etsy and does custom work.  Check it out!  She’s truly fantastic.

*Education: BA in Communitcations/Public Relations from Loyola University New Orleans, Minor inStudio Arts

*Current City/Hometown: live in Dallas, originally from Brooklyn, NY

*Tell me about your work in one sentence: With the subject matter of my paintings varying from cellular abstractions to modern landscapes, there is a dreamlike, organic aspect to my work that is always apparent.
*Describe your normal day. What would your *ideal* day be like? On a “Normal” day, I am up at 6:00 a.m. to get in a run before my husband and three kids are up at 7:30 (I am training for my sixth half marathon), then hubby is off to work and the kids and I spend the morning either hanging out outside if weather permits, playing with toys, or going to and from activities.  If the planets aligns and everyone takes afternoon naps at the same time I usually get some time to paint out in my studio. Painting time has been very limited lately with the arrival of our third child just three and a half weeks ago, but I look forward to painting more when the baby gets on a more regular schedule in the next few months.  Right now I am just enjoying my kids as much as possible because they grow so fast.

*What are your passions? my family and friends, art, yoga

*What are your goals? to become an internationally recognized artist and to raise a happy family in a loving home

*Who are your creative influences? Marc Chagall, Vincent Van Gogh, Joseph Cornell, Frida Kahlo

*Are there any other relevant experiences that shaped who you are today and what you do? It is in my blood to create. My mother is an amazing artist who has taught me so much about painting. I still have so much to learn from her.  She’s the only one in my family who will give me an honest critique! :)

*Is there anyone (celebrity, dead, alive, in your life) that you really look up to as an inspiration?
While pregnant with my third child, I have painted more than I ever have in my life. The pregnancy was a very difficult one, full of concerns and worries, and to process all of the stressful news we received I took the term “art therapy” to a whole new level.  I painted through bouts of insomnia and turned them into productive hours in the studio. Luckily our prayers were answered and our son was born perfect and healthy, but the experience of carrying him has changed me forever, and I lovingly call him my little muse.  I feel some of my best work has been created in the past nine months.

*What motivates you on a daily basis?  Do you have a “guilty pleasure” that you can’t miss out on to get you going?
On a daily basis, I am motivated by fresh air, sunshine and the laughter of my children. My “guilty pleasure” comes at the end of the day when the kids are in bed and my husband and I cuddle on the couch and indulge in our favorite TV shows and nightly dessert of chocolate chip cookies or an ice cream sundae.  I would rather run five miles every day mainly so I can enjoy dessert at night!
*What’s your working style?  Do you work for 12 hours straight nonstop, or do you take lots of breaks? Although I could easily work the day away if given the opportunity (I have too many ideas for my own good sometimes),  being the mother of three children under four simply does not allow for that.  My family is and always will be my first priority. Instead, I work in spurts, whenever I can carve some time out of the day, whether that is late in the evenings, early mornings, on Fridays when I have help at home, just whenever.
