Speak From Your Heart With Kindness

As a society we often forget how powerful our words can be. We are occasionally reckless or too quick to speak when we should take time to think about the consequences of our words. We are taught from childhood to think before we act, but sometimes neglect to think before we speak!

Not to worry, this can be a thing of the past by learning the art of 'Speaking with Integrity.' Integrity is defined as 'the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards.' Isn't that an awesome definition? Right away, it elevates the position of the speaker to a place where he/she is responsible for caring about how their communication is going to be received. For example, if you frequently tell jokes or stories that are a little 'unfitting,' when integrity is embraced, your jokes will conflict with the 'high moral principles' aspect, and maybe even the 'professional standards' part depending on where your jokes are being told. Wow, how is that for immediate responsibility acceptance? Want to try it out?

For the next week, examine your communications and try to speak with integrity. If you slip, jot it down and write a response that does come from a place of integrity. With practice, you will start to put this to use naturally and you will see how extraordinary the results will be. Your life and the lives of those you touch will be so much richer.

Now that we've decided to change how our words affect others, what about how our words can affect ourselves. As a whole, we so often use our words to speak against ourselves. We were all taught manners. Isn't it a shame that we don't apply the manners that we wouldn't dream of deviating from for others, on ourselves? In fact, I bet that if anyone else spoke about us the way that we do, we would not be speaking to them at all! So, why put up with it from ourselves? Make a conscious effort to STOP! Yes, start today. In the story portion of the One Minute Millionaire, the main character was told to wear a rubber band around her wrist and to give it a tug every time she had a limiting thought. Within days she had a red welt on her wrist, but as time went on she was pulling the rubber band with less frequency. Why not try this tool yourself? I challenge you to put that rubber band on your wrist and give it a good pull each time you speak about yourself in anywa y other than an exemplary manner. You may start out with a very sore wrist, but you will end up with a very strong sense of self.

We've decided to not speak to others without integrity, to speak about ourselves in an exemplary manner, how about how we talk about others? Yes, it is gossip when we speak about others. It can be hurtful and sometimes have serious consequences, not just for others, but for ourselves as well. When we gossip we are tarnishing ourselves. Most of what is considered 'good' gossip is negative in some manner — a behavior, situation or belief. We are willingly corrupting our world by participating in such actions. Since we know that like attracts like, we are knowingly sending negativity out into the Universe. Make a promise to eliminate all forms of gossip from your life. Each time you think to gossip, instead turn it into a positive affirmation about the person. This change alone will help you attract much more of what YOU want.

Imagine how much good the 'Art of Integrity' can put out into the Universe. Providing a positive, truthful comment, helping someone turn a bad mood into a good mood, and speaking to ourselves with only love will have an incredible affect on many lives. Remember the Law of Attraction is at work at all times. Watch your words and speak only of what you would want to have in your world.

The Watched Pot Syndrome

When Michele Woodward shared that Pam‘s green candle prosperity tip got her an $11,000 windfall within 24 hours, she had my attention.

I’m all about easy ways to let money in, and this sounded perfect. 

Apparently it derives from a Native American tradition: the process is to light a green candle on any calendar day with an “8″ in it.  Attracts abundance and prosperity.  (Supposedly.)

So the next “8″ day that rolled around, I had a brand new green candle burning.

And while it smelled great (“lotus bamboo” – yummy!), there were no obvious cash windfalls on the heels of it.

Maybe my candle just needed a little longer to get warmed up, I thought. 

We fired up the flames on the next “8″ day.  Still no out of the ordinary money. 

Later I heard Michele say you’re supposed to set an intention as you light it. 

Duh.  That makes sense.

But even after setting my intention while lighting it on the next eight day – and this time I lit two candles (one was a darker green in case my hue was off) – still nada. 

I began to look at my candle suspiciously. 

Maybe it didn’t know the Native American tradition. 

Maybe it needed to hang out with other successful green candles to catch on.  Maybe I needed to let it burn longer.  Or maybe not so long …

… or maybe, as Nancy Barry-Jansson suggested on the GVU watercooler call today, I was falling prey to the watched pot syndrome

Everyone knows that syndrome, right?  That the watched pot never boils.

After all, don’t all our best manifesting stories come from times when we were just goofing off with something, playing around with a new idea, and not really paying too much attention to it? 

When we forget about it, and don’t remember it till we’re already looking at the physical manifestation of it – that’s when the stuff happens most magically.

  • That’s how it worked with my first pray rain journal entry: a personal miracle manifested within hours. 
  • And the first time I wrote out a page of “I am worthy” affirmations I had spectactular results the next morning. 
  • And the first time I scripted, before 48 hours lapsed the very “impossible” thing I’d spoken about had happened.  (That’s one of my favorite stories from Adventures in Manifesting.)

But the next time I picked up each of these manifesting techniques, I didn’t do it with the same lightness and fooling around that I had initially.  Now that I knew they worked, I expected big things to happen.  And I looked out for those results with an eagle eye.

I think that “eagle eye” sometimes serves as a sort of unmagic wand.  Where it keeps the very thing we want from flowing in. 

Because watched pots never boil. 

Specifically, the Watched Pot Syndrome states that:

When one is anxiously focused on an anticipated result, that specific result is suspended indefinitely in time until the very moment one looks away.

(I made that up, but you already knew it, right?)

This phenomenon is observed most often with important incoming emails, red lights turning green, and phone calls from cute boys.

  • It’s why my dad walks away from his fishing pole or lights up a cigarette to get a bite on the pole. 
  • It’s why the first thing I used to do after sending out a newsletter was take the dogs on a walk, because if I stayed glued to the computer to see how it was received, no one would write.  (And I mean no one.)  If I left the computer, especially to engage in something fun, I was deluged with positive responses.

So the green candle big money windfall might just be waiting for me to stop looking for it.

But by now the green candle is sort of ticking me off – especially when Patty told me she’s had lots of clients report great results with it.

My opportunity here is to soften the eyes, lighten the energy, have more fun with it – and not take it so personally when Master Manifester Jeannette Maw doesn’t get the results she thinks she should be.

Leading Yourself Forward

Imagine you’re trotting along in your business, doing everything you think you should be doing, only to discover your compass wasn’t pointing to your true north. Your compass was being impacted by the direction that society, family, colleagues, and perhaps even coaches thought you should go in.

One day, you wake up to the reality that you aren’t where you want to be even though it all “looks” right on the outside. The problem is it doesn’t FEEL right on the inside. At first, you may deny the reality that’s setting in, you may try harder to get ahead and stay out there and do what you feel must be done to just keep going (though somewhat blindly), and eventually, you have an experience like I did last week; eventually you truly see what’s been happening. And, you allow yourself to feel the pain of the misalignment, of not paying attention to what you were feeling, to squelching that intuitive nudge that was whispering to you over and over again.

Basically, you dive!

But, the most important part of diving is not keeping yourself underwater when you have the tools to propel yourself back up to the surface. So, you may be asking, “What do you mean by keeping myself under water?” What I mean is you could choose (perhaps unconsciously) to keep yourself stuck; to stuff that’s going on, to “get busy,” to look outside of yourself and blame someone else, to beat yourself up, to affirm to yourself you’re “not enough”, to doubt if anything you’ve ever done has mattered, and on it goes.

When you’re on this journey of waking up and truly embracing what it means to be a conscious entrepreneur, these moments of “diving” are going to happen, they are part of your ascension process. However, that does not mean you get to stay there, not by a long shot! It is your responsibility to do what you need to do to shift yourself. Conscious entrepreneurs are the rising leaders in our transforming world… but we can’t contribute anything if we’re keeping ourselves “under water.”

So, how can you propel yourself to the surface? I’ll share with you what I did in hopes it will help you navigate the narrow passages that rise up on this journey. First, I allowed the painful feelings to rise to the surface, I allowed the tears to flow, I allowed myself to feel what I was feeling and dive into the feeling rather than stuff it down as it welled up inside of me.

I gave myself permission to curl up on the couch in my office and cry, in the middle of the work day! This is not something I’ve ever allowed myself to do… I had a “rule” that if it’s between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, I had to work. Well, it became crystal clear to me that curling up on the couch and crying WAS exactly the WORK I needed to do in that moment.

I shared what I was going through with some of my closest friends and soul family, and received their love and support. I didn’t try to rush through my process, rather I gently allowed myself to be in it as long as I needed until I felt the light shining through.

As a result, I also discovered that I can give myself the gift of “diving” in the middle of a workday and come back to my desk after I shifted into a peaceful place. I dove, and then returned to the surface to crank out “practical” work with more ease and speed than I ever could have if I didn’t allow myself the space to feel what was happening first.

This is what, for me, it looks like to lead myself. I did what I needed to do for me. I went through it on my own, but I didn’t isolate myself in the process. I allowed myself time and space (without an agenda) to BE with what was happening. And, I could then do what needed to be done for my business (and my family) even while I was in the thick of my process.

So, let me ask, what would it look like for you to lead yourself out of these narrow passages that arise on your path? How would you move through the doubt, fear and pain to reconnect with and rediscover the magnificent, bright light inside of you?

You are a conscious entrepreneur. You are on a SOUL journey. You are here to awaken. You are here to serve FROM your highest FOR the highest. Learning to lead yourself from the darkness to the light is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, and the world around you.
